Surf Board
A surf board today looks very dissimilar from its ancient counterparts. Hundreds of years back, surfboards were made from trees, and they were 20-30 feet long, and weighed up to 150 pounds. The size of your board came to be something of a strong man competition. However they were large for more than just show. Due to a rudimentary carving technique, the board needed that massive size just to support its own weight and the weight of a rider.
These ancient boards were the first long boards. Long boards are a surf board that is better suited to riding a wave without a whole lot of maneuvering involved. It has better flotation than short boards, and can be used to ride waves a short board can’t catch.
The short board wasn’t invented until after the modern re-genesis of the surf board. New foam materials allowed for the use of new shapes, and more importantly, less material in a board. This let board designers make boards that were more agile and maneuverable than ever before. The board genres eventually split into two distinct surfing styles, and it has been that way ever since.
